Atalanta stormed into the quarter-finals of this season’s Coppa Italia with a dominant 6-1 victory over Cesena on Wednesday.
Notably absent from the squad was the newly crowned African Footballer of Year, Ademola Lookman.
Lazar Samardzic and Charles De Ketelaere each bagged a brace, while Davide Zappacosta and Marco Brescianini added their names to the scoresheet.
Cesena’s lone goal came late in the match, courtesy of Joseph Ceesay in the 90th minute.
Last season, Atalanta reached the Coppa Italia final but fell short, losing 1-0 to Juventus.
The club’s sole triumph in the competition dates back to the 1962/1963 season when they clinched the title.
