The National Youth Service Corps has encouraged corps members across the country to make positive contributions to their host communities through meaningful community development projects.
According to The PUNCH, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, made this call on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation exercise at the Wailo Permanent Orientation Camp in Bauchi State’s Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
Ahmed, represented by the Bauchi State NYSC Coordinator, Rifkatu Yakubu, emphasized the importance of respecting the traditions and values of their host communities.
“Endeavour to settle down quickly when you get to your places of primary assignment and adapt to the ways of life there,” he urged.
“The people of Bauchi State are known for their hospitality. The provision of buses by local councils to transport you to your places of primary assignment is a clear demonstration of this.”
The Director-General commended the corps members for their discipline, patience, and good conduct during the three-week orientation. He expressed confidence that their time on camp had prepared them for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
“By your show of maturity, discipline, and tolerance, I am convinced that your three-week stay on camp has not been in vain and that you will make a meaningful impact in your host communities during the service year,” Ahmed stated.
He urged the corps members to remain obedient, diligent, and loyal as they begin the next phase of their service year.
The NYSC DG also expressed appreciation to the Bauchi State Government for creating a conducive and secure environment for both corps members and officials.
He extended gratitude to the state’s Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for their unwavering support.
“As you leave camp, remember to reciprocate the goodwill you’ve received by contributing to the upliftment of your host communities and Bauchi State in general,” Ahmed added.
