The Kogi West Senator Sunday Karimi has initiated the construction of 75 solar-powered boreholes and the rehabilitation of 60 abandoned water schemes across communities in the senatorial district.
The N1.24 billion project is being executed by two contractors with experience in water infrastructure, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
According to The PUNCH, Senator Karimi emphasised the project’s goal of providing clean water to residents in the district’s seven local government areas.
He stated that the contractors are already on-site and committed to completing the work within the next four months.
“This initiative is aimed at easing the challenges faced by constituents in accessing potable water,” Karimi explained.
The senator’s efforts have drawn commendation from Hon. Suleiman Babadoko, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
Babadoko described Karimi’s contributions as transformative, noting his impact on various sectors beyond water infrastructure.
Babadoko highlighted other achievements of the senator, including establishing cooperative societies for women across the district, with a total funding of N160 million, and awarding annual bursaries of N100,000 each to 1,000 students, amounting to N100 million.
He also applauded Karimi’s role in the construction of a military Forward Operating Base, his efforts to secure funding for the N1 billion upgrade of Government Secondary School, Koton Karfi, and the provision of transformers and solar streetlights in local communities.
Additionally, Babadoko commended Karimi’s periodic distribution of food items such as rice and Semovita to alleviate poverty, as well as fertilizers to support local farmers.
“Senator Karimi has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the welfare of his people,” Babadoko said. “His leadership is unprecedented, and I pray for his continued good health and success in serving the people.”
