Prominent figures including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Kashim Shettima gathered on Saturday to celebrate the Wedding Fatiha of Dr. Aishatu Kwankwaso, daughter of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
The bride was joined in matrimony with Fahad, son of Katsina-based billionaire businessman Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, in a ceremony that underscored the unity of Nigeria’s political elite.
The event took place at the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, with the Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zahraddeen, officiating the wedding rites. The groom fulfilled Islamic tradition by paying a dowry of N1 million.
Notable dignitaries also in attendance included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, who made a striking appearance wearing the symbolic red cap of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
The ceremony brought together a remarkable array of Nigeria’s past and present leaders. Former governors who attended included Ahmed Makarfi of Kaduna State, Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, Adamu Aliero of Kebbi State, and Isah Yuguda of Bauchi State.
Others present were Lucky Igbinedion of Edo State, Mahamud Shinkafi of Zamfara State, Victor Attah of Akwa Ibom, and Chief Achike Udenwa of Imo State.
Former Senator Dino Melaye, known for his vibrant personality, and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State General Sani Abacha, were among the distinguished guests.
The political and business worlds converged at the occasion, reflecting the national significance of the union.
The grand ceremony was also an opportunity for Senator Kwankwaso to showcase the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement, as symbolized by the red cap prominently worn by Obasanjo, a gesture that became the highlight of the day.
