A middle-aged tricycle operator, Nnamdi Nnebe, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his elder brother’s wife, Njideka Nnebe, following a heated argument at Umuokpu Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The altercation reportedly erupted a few days ago after Nnamdi accused Njideka’s son of playing inside his tricycle, which was parked within their shared compound.
The dispute escalated quickly, culminating in the violent act that left Njideka injured.
Njideka recounted the incident while speaking with officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
According to her, the situation unfolded after several children were seen playing in Nnamdi’s tricycle.
Upon sighting him, the children fled, but Nnamdi allegedly mistook her son for one of them and reacted aggressively.
“Some kids were playing inside his tricycle parked in the compound on the said day; immediately the kids saw him; they ran away, but my husband’s brother mistook one of them to be my son and went after him,” Njideka explained.
In an attempt to protect her son from Nnamdi’s accusations, Njideka confronted him, which led to a heated exchange.
She further narrated, “To my greatest surprise, what started as a minor misunderstanding between us escalated to a hot exchange of words before he suddenly dashed inside his apartment and brought a knife.
“In an attempt to defend my son with my hand, the man stabbed me.”
Adding to her distress, Njideka revealed that Nnamdi displayed no remorse after the attack, stating that he even remarked it would have been better if she had died.
Security operatives apprehended Nnamdi after the victim reported the incident to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Awka.
Njideka is currently receiving treatment for her injuries in a hospital.
The state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, expressed dismay over the incident during a visit to the victim in the hospital.
Describing the situation as “unfortunate,” she assured that the ministry would see the case through to its conclusion.
“The state government is now in charge of giving justice to the survivor,” Obinabo stated, reiterating the administration’s commitment to ensuring that such acts do not go unpunished.
The case has garnered significant attention within the community, with many calling for a thorough investigation to deliver justice.
