A fire incident on Sunday destroyed goods and property valued at millions of naira in Ajah Market near Alesh Bus Stop in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
The fire broke out around 9 p.m. and swept through several shops and storage units packed with flammable materials.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service acted swiftly to bring the inferno under control. However, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA,Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu praised the collaborative efforts of the emergency teams. “Our Response Team, in conjunction with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings,” he stated.
“Although the fire caused extensive damage, we are grateful that there were no casualties or injuries, as the market was closed for Sunday, and traders were not present.”
He said authorities are working to fully extinguish the blaze and salvage any remaining items.
“Efforts are ongoing to ensure the fire is completely put out and to recover any valuables that can be saved,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.
