At least 10 individuals have reportedly diedd in a building collapse in the Jegede Olorunsogo area of Ona Ara Local Government in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The collapse, which occurred in the early hours, left residents in shock as emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist those trapped in the rubble.
Seven survivors have been rescued so far, with ongoing efforts to find any additional victims.
The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Rev. Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, noting that his team received an emergency call from local residents around 2 a.m.
Describing the response efforts, he said, “May I inform you that Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at around 2 am this morning at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan, of which 10 persons have been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while 7 persons were rescued alive.”
He said rescue operations are still underway, with authorities and local volunteers continuing their search through the debris.
“Rescue operation is still going on. I thank you,” Akinyinka added.
