The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has assigned 984 personnel to ensure security during the Enugu State local government election scheduled for Saturday.
The deployment was confirmed by the NSCDC Commandant for Enugu State, Cyprian Otoibhi, during a press briefing held in Enugu on Friday.
Otoibhi urged the officers to carry out their duties with integrity and uphold the principles of the Corps, emphasizing the importance of a credible and peaceful election process.
He stated that the personnel have been adequately trained and briefed on their responsibilities, with an emphasis on maintaining professionalism throughout the exercise.
“Our officers and men have been thoroughly briefed on their duties and responsibilities, and on the need to maintain professionalism and integrity throughout the exercise,” Otoibhi said.
He further encouraged the NSCDC personnel to collaborate effectively with other security agencies to guarantee a smooth and credible electoral process.
Highlighting the significance of public cooperation, he appealed to party officials, supporters, and voters to adhere to the law and assist security agents by providing reliable information that could help safeguard election officials, electoral materials, and the integrity of the process.
“I also advise party officials, party faithful, and the electorate to be law-abiding and to provide actionable intelligence to security agents to help secure election officials, and electoral materials, and ensure a credible process,” he added.
Otoibhi also conveyed the support of NSCDC Commandant General Ahmed Audi to all officers involved in the election duties, as well as to other collaborating security agencies.
He emphasized the need for all personnel to perform their roles with the utmost dedication and commitment to ensure the successful conduct of the elections.
“The cooperation of the public is crucial in achieving a peaceful and orderly election. I extend the goodwill of the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, to all officers and men of the Corps and all other sister security agencies involved in election duties,” he said.
He concluded by urging all NSCDC personnel to demonstrate unwavering commitment and professionalism throughout the election period, reflecting the Corps’ dedication to maintaining peace and security in the state.
