A tragic single-vehicle accident on Saturday night resulted in the death of two children and injuries to seven other occupants along the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos road at Kere, Itori.
The crash, which occurred around 11 pm, involved a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA.
According to The PUNCH, a statement from the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps excessive speed and overloading are believed to have caused the accident.
Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State FRSC, shared that “Operatives from the FRSC Itori Unit Command carried out a rescue operation following the crash.”
She detailed that the incident involved “a total of seven male adults, one male child, and one female child. Unfortunately, the two children were killed in the accident, while the remaining occupants sustained various injuries.”
The injured were promptly transported to Ifo General Hospital for medical attention, and the bodies of the deceased were also taken to the same facility.
Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin of the Ogun State FRSC expressed concern over the incident, criticizing both the driver and passengers for their apparent disregard for safety regulations.
“This crash underscores a reckless disregard for life by the driver and passengers, who overlooked the dangers of overloading the vehicle,” Fasakin remarked.
He further urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, specifically cautioning against the practice of overloading vehicles, which he described as “not only illegal but also a grave danger to the driver, passengers, and other road users.”
Fasakin extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured in the accident.
