A man simply identified as Francis Timothy is currently in custody for attacking police officers with guns during a night patrol at Sakponba Road, Benin City, in Edo State.
According to The PUNCH, the suspect got shot during the incident.
It was also learnt that the incident occurred on April 6 at about 9:30 p.m.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.
He added that the suspect who was shot was taken to the hospital, where he confessed that he and two other people had ambushed the police officers with firearms.
He noted that one locally manufactured pistol and two live cartridges were recovered, and effort was ongoing to arrest the two other suspects.
He said, “He was arrested and taken to the hospital, where he made the statement that he, Francis Timothy, and two others attacked the policemen with guns.
“The guns —one locally made pistol with two live cartridges— were recovered from the suspects. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
