The former Minister of Science and Technology under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu has passed away.
According to Vanguard, the 72-year-old statesman and former governor of Abia State succumbed to a brief illness while receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Nigeria.
Dr. Onu had a long and illustrious career in Nigerian politics, as well as being an accomplished author and engineer.
Throughout his tenure as a prominent figure in Nigerian governance, he made significant contributions to the development of science, technology, and innovation in the country.
A keen advocate for progress, Dr. Onu was the first civilian governor of Abia State and held the esteemed position of Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation between November 2015 and his resignation in 2022.
His commitment to these fields earned him the respect and admiration of both his constituents and colleagues.
