The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Sokoto, has instructed the complete renovation of the initial residence of the late former President Shehu Shagari, which was ravaged by fire last week.
After visiting the burnt house to evaluate the damage, the governor issued the directive on Saturday.
He characterized the inferno as a catastrophic and regrettable event, highlighting the historic significance of the burnt house, not only to Sokoto State but to the entire country.
“To us, this house is of great historical importance being the first residence of the former Nigeria’s first democratically-elected President, Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari.
“It’s like a historical monument to the upcoming generation, therefore, we’ll renovate this house,” Aliyu added.
In offering condolences to the late President’s family concerning the fire incident, Aliyu expressed prayers to the Almighty to prevent any future recurrence of such a disaster.
According to The PUNCH, the house of Shagari was destroyed by fire last week, resulting in substantial property losses.
