The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has obtained an arrest warrant for former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and initiated extradition proceedings to bring her back to Nigeria.
This development comes in the wake of alleged bribery allegations against Alison-Madueke, who was arraigned at Westminster’s Court in London, United Kingdom.
While the charges in the London court differ from the 13-count charges related to money laundering raised against her by the EFCC, the agency emphasizes that criminality remains punishable, regardless of jurisdictional differences.
In a statement issued by its Ag. Head, Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft body also welcomed the arraignment of the former minister.
“The money laundering charges for which Madueke is answerable to the EFCC cover jurisdictions in Dubai, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Nigeria.
“To bring the former minister to trial in Nigeria, an arrest warrant has been obtained, and extradition proceedings have been initiated. The commission is on course on her trial. She will soon have her day in our courts,” the statement stated.
