The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a stern warning to the members of the Civilian Joint Task Force to stop unprofessional activities by taking laws into their hands when conducting security missions in the state.
According to the Guardian, the Police Command made this known in a statement while lamenting the loss of three lives recently under such circumstances.
The Commissioner of Police, Musa Yusuf Garba, in a meeting with the JTF leaders in the state, said there were reports by the public on the excesses of the local security outfit, urging the body to conduct their activities with decorum.
In a statement by the Command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Office, ASP Mansir Hassan, the police “warned members of the body in the state to stop taking the law into their hands”, advising them to “allow normal legal process to always take its course.”
Hassan said, “This was due to the series of complaints from members of the general public, relating to the unprofessional conducts of certain members of the group. Recently, about three persons lost their lives at different occasions as a result of mishandling of cases reported to them when carrying out their operations, which they often do without the knowledge of the DPOs in their area of responsibilities.
“In response to the reports and series of complaints received by the command, the Commissioner of Police has directed that all Area Commanders and their DPOs should undertake stringent measures and supervision on activities of the civilian JTF, in their respective jurisdictions with the sole aim of deterring such ugly trends in the near future.”
Hassan noted that the Commissioner of Police has introduce a comprehensive training programme for members of the civilian JTF across the state to enable them cultivate the culture of civility and professionalism in their dealings.
