Former Manchester City and France footballer Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty of rape and attempted rape by a jury in a UK court on Friday.
After being found not guilty on six counts of rape and one of sexual assault, 28-year-old Mendy was put on trial in Chester Crown Court, northwest England.
In October 2020, the former Manchester City star is said to have raped a 24-year-old woman in a bedroom at his Cheshire house.
In addition, he was accused of attempting to rape a 29-year-old woman at his house two years prior.
The jury at Chester Crown Court returned a verdict of not guilty for Mendy, who had denied both allegations. He claimed that the interactions had been voluntary.
After leaving court, Mendy’s solicitor said in a statement: “Benjamin Mendy would like to thank the members of the jury for focusing on the evidence of this trial, rather than the rumour and innuendo that have followed this case from the outset.
“This is the second time Mr Mendy has been tried and found not guilty by the jury. He is delighted that both jurors reached the correct verdict.”
