Due to ongoing reconstruction and reconstruction work being done on the expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps has issued a new traffic detour on the Lagos-Ibadan route.
The FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, made this disclosure in a statement on Sunday, June 18, 2023, stating that traffic has been diverted from connecting the expressway at New Garage Lagos as part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Traffic from Isheri Olowora which was formerly using River Valley Estate to connect to the expressway leading into Lagos has been rerouted to use Babcock College, which is located next to an Enyo petrol station.
“To connect the expressways at the BRT Bus-stop, they could also pass through Ojodu and make a U-turn in front of FRSC Ojodu.
According to the FRSC Corps Marshal, Kazeem, Dauda Biu, has instructed the FRSC Commands along the corridor to ensure that passengers can move about without difficulty.
“FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu while directing the FRSC Commands along the corridor to ensure minimum hardship on behalf of commuters also enjoins the motoring public along the route to exercise maximum patience and cooperate with the law enforcement agencies along the said routes,” the statement further read.
Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and Lagos, Nigeria’s largest metropolis, are connected by the 127.6-kilometer-long Lagos-Ibadan Motorway project, which has had numerous delays and setbacks.
The expressway serves as a main artery to Nigeria’s northern, southern and eastern regions and is also the busiest interstate highway in the country, carrying over 250,000 passenger car units every day. It makes up one of Africa’s biggest road networks.
Julius Berger Nigeria and Reynolds Construction Company Limited received the contract for N167 billion.
Earlier, the Federal Government had stated that the Lagos-Ibadan motorway will be finished by the end of April, which was meant to be a tremendous relief for commuters and drivers, however, it claimed in March 2023 that current funding problems and fuel shortages were unanticipated reasons that had delayed the Lagos-Ibadan expressway’s completion.
