Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has been arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command before the Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun of a Magistrate’s court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State.
According to The PUNCH, Kuti was charged with assault on a police officer, an offense contrary to Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act.
The police prosecutor, S. A. Adebese, asked the court to remand the defendant for 21 days while the Directorate of Public Prosecutions provides legal counsel.
However, the attorney for the defendant, headed by Femi Falana, SAN, pleaded with the court not to remand his client, claiming he was unaware of the remand application.
PUNCH METRO reported that a viral video of Seun Kuti assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State emerged on Saturday.
Kuti surrendered to the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja on Monday, after an arrest warrant issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.
He was later moved to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.
