No fewer than two persons have been reportedly dead, and twelve other people sustained serious degrees of injuries, in a lone accident, in Kogi state on Sunday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kogi State Commanded, reported that the lone accident involved a Toyota Hiace Bus, conveying 18 passengers, the driver of the bus inclusive.
The Sector Commander, Mr Stephen Dawulung, who confirmed the incident, stated that it occurred at around 3:30 a.m, at Irepeni village, along Zariagi-Okene road, in the state.
However, the Commander, Blamed the cause of the crash on inability to control speed, and tyre burst, made the vehicle to summersault.
According to him, the injured victims of the accident have been taken to the hospital for proper medical care, while the corpses of the dead ones have been claimed by their families.
“The injured have already been conveyed to Kekere Hospital, Kabba Junction, Zariagi by our personnel who carried out the rescue operation.
“Already, the corpses of the dead passengers have been claimed by relations for burial,” he said.
However, he expressed his sympathy with the families of the victims and instructed drivers to avoid night journeys, speed and use of worn-out or expired tyres.
Advising motorists of the impending dangers in shunning all traffic rules and regulations, Dawulung urged them to to always observe 40 minutes rest, after every four hours drive, to ward off fatigue and drowsiness.
Appreciating the military for providing security cover to FRSC personnel that conducted the rescue operation, during the incident, the Commander solicited for more synergy with all security agencies to save lives and property on highways.
