Former Super Eagles player, Emmanuel Ebiede, has been reported dead.
According to The PUNCH, Ebiede died on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State after suffering Hepatomegaly, otherwise referred to as ‘enlargement of the liver ‘.
According to reports, Ebiede, 47, passed away at 4 p.m. at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
Two of his children reside in Nigeria and one in the Netherlands.
In 1995, the midfielder participated in the African Youth Championship with the Flying Eagles.
The United Kingdom-based business Our correspondent was informed of the demise of the former SC Heerenveen player by David Doherty, who ran for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation in last year’s election.
Doherty had established a donation account for the ailing Ebiede until his passing.
Doherty had opened an account for donors to assist the ailing Ebiede until his death.
“I just spoke with the daughter who confirmed to me that Emmanuel is dead,” said Doherty.
“I’m very sad as we speak. This was someone whom I spoke with two days ago to know how he was faring,” he said.
Ebiede earned two caps for the Super Eagles, making his début on January 28, 1998 against Iran in a pre-World Cup friendly under Serbian Bora Milutinovic.
1995 marked Ebiede’s transfer from his boyhood club Sharks of Port Harcourt to Belgian First Division club SC Eendracht Aalst.
In 1997, he transferred to the Dutch Eredivisie with SC Heerenveen, followed by stints in the United Arab Emirates (1999-2004) and Israel (2006-2008). He then returned to his native country to play for Bayelsa United and Sharks. He left the workforce in 2011.
