The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has left Nigeria for Saudi Arabia on an official visit that will see him perform Umrah, the Lesser Pilgrimage.
This will be his last trip to the Kingdom as President, according to a statement released on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
The statement read; “Buhari will travel to Saudi Arabia on an official visit from Tuesday, April 11 to 19 on his last trip to the Kingdom as President, during which he will perform Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage.”
The statement further disclosed that the President will be accompanied by his aides during the trip, which will last from Tuesday, April 11 to 19.
The purpose of the visit was not stated, but it is expected that President Buhari will use the opportunity to strengthen ties between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
Nigeria has a long-standing relationship with Saudi Arabia, particularly in the areas of trade, culture, and religion.
In recent years, the two countries have worked together on issues related to terrorism, security, and economic development.
Buhari’s visit to Saudi Arabia is also an opportunity for the President to perform Umrah, a religious obligation that is highly revered by Muslims around the world.
