Nigeria’s largest patient-centered technology-driven healthcare company, mPharma, has donated medications worth N35 million (about $76,000) to state-run public hospitals as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.
These include the states of Lagos, Delta, Rivers, and Abuja. The donations were given to a few institutions that predominantly treat patients from low-income families and have high patient traffic.
The Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of mPharma, Gregory Rockson, commented on the development in a statement. He said the donated drugs are anticipated to be given away free of charge to patients with a variety of illnesses, such as hypertension, diabetes, malaria, and infectious diseases, who are unable to afford the medications required for their treatment.
He said, “The impact is expected to reach the underserved population who increasingly are unable to afford life-saving medications due to rising inflation and its associated unfavourable economic conditions.”
According to Rockson, the donation is a means for the business to give back to the community and is consistent with its goal of creating a healthy Africa. He explained that this CSR initiative’s main objective was to lessen patients’ burdens and promote treatment adherence, especially for people with chronic conditions who must contend with the escalating expense of pharmaceuticals among other difficulties.
“The drugs will be provided at zero cost to patients unable to pay for their medications at the point of care,” he added.
The donations would go to 44 hospitals in all, including the General Hospital in Alimosho, General Hospital in Lagos, General Hospital in Isolo, Ace Medicare Hospital in Otta, and Obio Cottage Hospital in Port Harcourt.
This donation will also benefit R-jolad Hospital Lagos, Covenant University Hospital Otta, Sadol Healthcare, Ancilla Catholic Hospital, Moshalasi Community Hospital, Light Hospital & Maternity, Bells University Hospital, Maciland Medical Center, Fortress Health Consultant, St Nicholas Hospital, and Etta Atlantic Memorial Hospital, among other hospitals.
