Commonwealth gold medalist, Ese Brume, has appreciated the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd,), for the award of recognition she recently received.
The 26-year-old long jumper visited Aso Rock in Abuja to meet President Buhari alongside other athletes who participate in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom.
The President appreciated the efforts of the talented youths to raise the Nigerian flag and make the anthem heard at international competitions.
President Buhari honoured Brume who won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with the Officer of the Order of the Niger award and a token of N4.5 million.
Her words of gratitude read, “I am extremely honoured to receive such an important award from his Excellency @muhammadubuhari I am earnestly grateful for the recognition I have received for my work.
“Winning this award would not have been possible without the inspiration I have received from God from whom I have derived the strength to challenge myself and perform better at each stage.
I sincerely thank each one of you for your constant support. I can proudly hold up this award as a mark of my achievement.
“I also promise to only get better at my work so that you can see me here for more of such awards. Thank you!”
Ese Brume is the current commonwealth champion and a three-time African senior champion in the Long Jump and holds a personal best of 7.17 m.
She currently holds the commonwealth games record, African junior record and African record in the event.
