At least 17 persons have been killed by gunmen who attacked Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to information obtained by The PUNCH, the attack occurred early on Thursday in the LGA’s Heipang community.
A distraught parent in the neighbourhood, Julius Pam, stated that the attack had occurred on Thursday.
Pam said, “Good morning sir. On a sad news, there was an attack early this morning in Heipang community. A total of 17 people were killed including my brother,his wife and children, all killed.”
Efforts to obtain a statement from, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful. However, reliable sources within the command headquarters have confirmed the deployment of security personnel to the village.
In the interim, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially launched a Security and Information Centre with the objective of enhancing public accessibility to transmit security-related information to the appropriate authorities for expeditious response.
