The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 individuals, including 113 foreign nationals and 17 Nigerians, for alleged involvement in cybercrimes, hacking, and activities posing potential threats to national security.
The foreign suspects, mostly of Chinese and Malaysian descent, consist of 87 males and 26 females, while the Nigerian collaborators include four males and 13 females.
The arrests were made during a coordinated operation led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters, AIG Benneth Igweh, on Saturday, November 3, 2024.
Officers from the Zone 7 Command Abuja and the National Cyber Crime Centre executed the raid at a building near the Next Cash and Carry area in Jahi, Abuja, where sophisticated computer systems were allegedly being used to facilitate criminal activities.
Speaking on the operation, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi stated, “We are thoroughly investigating the matter and scientifically analyzing the exhibits recovered from the suspects. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of our investigations.”
Adejobi assured the public of transparency, adding, “We will update the public on the outcomes of our investigations as and when due.”
The police are committed to addressing potential security threats posed by such activities and ensuring justice is served.
